“there is something beautiful about all scars of whatever nature. a scar means the hurt is over, the wound is closed and healed, done with.” – Harry Crews
“Informed by emotive fractured narrative in correlation with the modes and techniques of the information signage, the propaganda leaflet, the billboard, the street poster, … grafik 2.1 reflects upon the expressive and poetic qualities found within the subtle layering of the incidental trace, to the social and spatial aspect[s] of place.
Offering allusion towards the transient emotive presence held within the marks, residue, and fractured narrative of the communal [urban] environment, artwork responds to these evanescent traits, to the offset serendipity, and towards the dismantling and reconfiguring within, and upon, the confines of the transitional urban passageway.”
In my understanding of Henri Lefebvre, in reference to the communal passageway, as spaces, they are, a social construct, so, in use and in thought, the corridor, the stairwell, the passageway, will conform with the society that assembles or inherits it. Or, in appropriation of Brian O’Doherty, “… [the] perfect surface off which to bounce our paranoias.”. They are an animated emptiness, a place between two worlds or two realities, inducing fear and profound confusion, but at the same time allowing for reflection, unfettered with new possibilities.
artwork revolves around the autobiographical and can lend itself to the melancholic.
